What are the responsibilities of an LTVP sponsor?
The sponsor is accountable to ICA for the pass holder: ensuring they comply with the Immigration Act, that the stay remains social in nature, that they do not work without a valid Letter of Consent, and that they do not engage in any activity detrimental to Singapore.
What the sponsor undertakes
Sponsorship is a formal undertaking, not a formality. The sponsor confirms the pass holder will abide by Singapore's immigration laws, will visit socially rather than work without authorisation, and will leave or regularise their status when the pass ends. Breaches reflect on the sponsor as well as the holder.
Why sponsors matter at renewal
Because the pass depends on the sponsor's continuing eligibility and willingness, a sponsor who cannot or will not support a renewal puts the holder's status at risk. Where a relationship has broken down, get advice well before the pass expires rather than at the point of refusal.
