What happens if I overstay my visit pass in Singapore?
Overstaying is an offence under the Immigration Act. Depending on the length and circumstances, consequences range from fines and a stern warning to prosecution, imprisonment and a re-entry ban — and an overstay can also hurt future pass and PR applications.
It affects more than the current visit
Overstay records can surface in later pass, PR and citizenship assessments. An honest explanation becomes harder with time, so an overstay should not be left to accumulate.
If you have already overstayed
Act immediately — seek advice on how to regularise your status rather than simply leaving quietly, because the way you leave can affect whether you are banned from re-entry.
