What is the difference between a Dependant's Pass (DP) and an LTVP?
A Dependant's Pass is issued by MOM to eligible dependants of work-pass holders who meet the salary threshold. An LTVP is issued by ICA, mainly for family members of Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents — and for dependants of pass holders who do not qualify for a DP.
Different authorities, different routes
The DP sits with the Ministry of Manpower and follows the sponsoring employee's work pass: it is tied to that employment and lapses when the pass does. The LTVP sits with ICA and is sponsored by a family member, most often a Singapore Citizen or PR spouse.
Which one applies to you
If your sponsor is an Employment Pass or S Pass holder earning above MOM's threshold, the DP is normally the route for a spouse or child under 21. If your sponsor is a Singapore Citizen or PR, or the work-pass holder's salary falls below the DP threshold, the LTVP is the route to look at.
