# Which university is best for each type of student?

Last updated: 2026-09-14

Singapore's six Autonomous Universities serve different goals: NUS for breadth and research, NTU for engineering and applied strengths, SMU for business, law and accountancy, SUTD for design and technology, SIT for applied/industry degrees, and SUSS for social sciences and lifelong learning.

## Match the university to the outcome

Start from the career outcome and work backwards to the programme, then the university. A design-led student may thrive at SUTD; a future accountant at SMU; an applied learner at SIT. Read the [guide to Singapore's world-class education system](https://www.eh-immigration.com/articles/inside-singapores-world-class-education-system) for how the pathways differ.
