# Should families choose a university mainly for future Singapore PR prospects?

Last updated: 2026-09-14

PR prospects are a reasonable secondary factor — qualifications are one input ICA weighs and can earn up to 20 COMPASS points for an Employment Pass — but they should not be the primary reason. Choose the programme and career outcome first, then let the immigration path follow a well-supported record.

## Balance the decision

Education helps, but employment, contribution and integration carry the weight. See [how education affects PR](https://www.eh-immigration.com/articles/how-important-is-your-level-of-education-when-applying-for-singapore-residency-pr-and-citizenship) and, if you want a view on your situation, [use our eligibility checker](https://www.eh-immigration.com/eligibility-calculator).
